The case of Anneliese was very tragic indeed and one can perceive from the photos as well as from her laboured breathing as recorded in the hours and hours of sound recordings taken at the time, that there was something UNNATURAL and other-worldly about her affliction. Somatic illnesses are not accompanied by inexplicable events occurring simultaneously with the onset and progress of the disease. It was an affliction for which our modern medicine was unable to provide either a reasonable explanation or a treatment. It is telling that the Roman Catholic Church has ruled this a bona fide case of diabolic possession and the Church does not rule lightly on such issues. The authorities were well aware of what was going on in that home - they chose not to intervene until after the fact of her passing. The authorities, the doctors who had already treated her and gave up on her, could have intervened at any time. This is why the participants only received a very slight sentence of ‘probation’ after the case had been adjudicated. Thus, it can be safely assumed that the authorities knew something supernatural was involved. Greetings to you people in Icelandia.

hello I am 23 year old girl from new zealand and i am intrigued, like most, by the emily rose story and i think that it could of been quite possibly mentel health issue. i have a sister who is suffering from depression and schiztophrenia and many others names of illnesses that the doctors have come up with and although emily roses symptoms far outweighs my sister, they are in comparison very similar. whether the devil gave my sister these symptoms who knows.
The closer a person gets to God the more susceptible they become to demonic influence. The reason is that the demons are the last barrier keeping us from God. I believe that she must have been a very holy and love filled girl. She was a threat to the order the demons had carefully built up wherever she was. She must have come in to the clear, spiritual clarity, psychological clarity. At that point the demons, who reside in 77% of the population and interact with 99.99% of the population and fill every surface and volume with their sheer numbers, enveloping society in a thick demon cloud, would have revealed themselves to her in order to frighten her! For we must fear God not Satan. If she feared too much then she would become susceptible. Apparently she feared, a normal reaction for such an extremely lonely discovery. The people around her dismissed her witness and she must have listened to them. They probably advised her to get some rest or some other such thing, sending her into the loneliness of self doubt, and making her a passive victim for the demons! How could she then defend herself? Fasting was the right thing to do. But I wonder why the priest’s 67 exorcisms failed? They should have called in other exorcist experts with a higher level of spiritual purity. Easier said than done; expecially in this day and age when satan appraoches the absolute zenith of his earthly career! This clearly a case of someone who had a major psychological problem; there is absolutely nothing spiritual about what happened. I’m a muslim girl from Turkey but i believe that all the religions have “a” god and these religions have characterictics which are similar to one another. because “one” god makes us believe that the religions. what i want to say is that there’re creatures called jinns (or demons) in the Qouran, but also there are statements about these creatures in Bible too even if their names are different. i watched the film about this poor girl and made a rearch about this event in the web and i know someone who are conducted with these non-human creatures. so, if these creatures didn’t capture her body and made her so badly, then what is the disease that affects her in the same way? schizophrenia can’t hurt her body and so badly i think.
but of course i strongly believe medical science firstly. her family may disregard the girl’s situation that she had epilepsy. but in addition to her illness, capturing by some creatures may be the reason that makes the situation so amazing.
i’m a cristian-agnostic medical student, with catholic education. I believe in God, but sometime more of these “Possesion” are kinda way “fakes”. It needed more faith to believe in that, but i think Anneliese was really under possession of demons. i first know her story as Emily Rose (from the movie as more of us) then looking for articles and other stuff, looking at the library too. i don’t know if God is real but i’m sure there’s someone leading everithing. She don’t suffer for epilepsy or dementia, was just a few similar but not as who suffer from epilepsy or dementia are.
As a much older person I remember when Anneliese died and the furor over it literally around the world. For those younger people, remember that when she died times were even more confusing than now, but beliefs in religious matters were (at least it seems to me) simpler, more faith-bound. Whatever possessed Anneliese, be it mental illness and epilepsy, or demons, she suffered greatly. If it was her desire (her family and priests) to be a part of the exorcism rites, she still should have had proper feeding and care. IV feeding was around then. What that poor child went through was unspeakable.

Since i was a small girl, my mother worked in facilities for the developmentally disabled, the mentally retarded,and mentally ill. When i turned 18 i started working at these types of facilites up until just recentlly. I have even suffered a few siezures in my young adulthood. Researching the case i can see how some of her symptoms could be diagnosed as a mental illness. In the 70’s there were all ready several psychotropic meds on the market that were beening used that dramaticlly showed improvement or suppressed symptoms in patients. The way i understand it, correct me if im wrong, someone, is she was givin a strong combination ,of antipsychotics and anticonvulsantes of different types over a great length of time with no signs of improvement. That doesnt happen. When taking those types of meds, there is always a change, no matter how subtle. I have seen the mentally ill. I have worked with them. I have delevoped friendships with some. I have seen them at their best and their worst. Through medication platue to medication changes and behavior modification. Even the worst cases ive seen there was always a response to therapy. Even a small breakthrough is cause enough to continue. That did not happen in this case. Whatever happened to this girl could not be explained, cured, or treated by medical science.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. I am a mental health nurse, and I’ve see a 85yr old man rip a chair bolted with 4inch long bolts into concrete straight out of the ground than throw it 1/2 way across a courtyard (about 12metres).
Mental illness can actually INCREASE your strength due to a whole bunch of things. Every single ‘demonic’ attribute she had could be attributed to a medical condition.

You tell me that what they did wasn’t torture. Even if you do believe in demons, he STILL should have got medical aid for her malnutrition. The priest makes me sick, and you defending him and his ‘practice’ over the demons is just as bad.

People say “look at her it must be demons” because they cannot believe that mental illness could do ‘this’. Well you wouldn’t find a mentally ill person under care look like this. Their appearance is due to BAD care… but here’s a few things
* In severe dementia (not saying she had it, but still) patients will often ’shut down’. When this happens your body goes into starvation mode (which is likely for her). Your body tries to save fat, so instead consumes muscle. Muscle loss leads to contraction. The contractions often bed the joins so strongly that they cannot be opened without extreme force.
* I have seen whilst nursing:
- A person drink battery fluid whilst in a manic state
- Corporphilia to an extent of consuming it
- A person who thought of their mouth as a pocket. (Would eat/swallow anything)
- People who’ve heard the voice of and/or seen God, Jesus, Buddha, ghosts, deceased relatives, imaginary friends and even one that heard Mickey Mouse.

It’s easy to ‘blame’ the devil. We don’t like to think that such horrific behavior could be just ‘in our heads’. We don’t like to think that this poor girl could have been ‘ok’ under the right conditions. It’s far nicer to think the priest’s did everything they could, her parents did everything they could, and that she was ‘doomed’ by the devil. The ‘god bandaid’.
Well it’s BS. The devil, demons, they didn’t do this to her. This poor girl had a mental illness that, at the time, was poorly understood. She was born into a heavily religious household that ‘treated’ her with archaic religious treatments that resulted in her tragic death.
The TRUE horror is that rather than admitting all this, we claim her death was ‘for good’ and ‘for God’.
